It was 16 years ago when the most devastating foreign attack on American soil since the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941 occurred.
Emergency personnel gathered Monday morning at the Dryden Fire Hall to remember the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Acting Fire Chief Ryan Murrell says the event was also held to remember those who risked their lives to save others.
Murrell says we will always remember the fateful day and the courage of those involved.
2,996 people were killed and more than 6,000 others were wounded in the attacks.
Murrell notes 343 New York firefighters were killed in rescue efforts at the World Trade Centre.
Mayor Greg Wilson quoted Nelson Mandela and his 1989 speech on courage.
“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”
