A provincial government official is downplaying calls to twin Highway 17 in Northwestern Ontario.
Norm Miller, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines, says the Tories have already made substantial road upgrades in recent years and continue to do so.
Miller notes the Tories would be more open to the idea of twinning if the federal government provided financial support.
As of today, seven people have died in collisions on Highway 17 between Kenora and Vermilion Bay this month alone.
