The Ontario Liberals say they want to ensure the twinning of Highway 17, west of Kenora is done right.
Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca says that’s why the project hasn’t started, noting proper consultations with impacted First Nations need to continue.
Del Duca is firing back after Kenora-Rainy River MPP Sarah Campbell accused the Premier and Northern Development Minister of blaming Shoal Lake #39 for the delay.
He stresses the project remains a top priority for the government.
Del Duca says in 2017-2018, the government invested a historic $630-million to expand and repair northern highways.
Del Duca accuses the NDP Caucus of trying its best to impede progress on critical transportation projects in northwestern Ontario.
