The Thunder Bay District Health Unit says tests are underway to confirm that a Lakehead Univesity student died of meningitis.
The woman lived in the University’s residence.
Anyone who came into close contact with her is being given antibiotics.
Her age and identity aren’t being released until her family is told.
She became ill and went to McKellar Hospital Monday where she later died.

Strict rules are being enforced at Hospitals across the region.
Until further notice no visitors will be allowed except for; the parent or guardian of an admitted child, those visiting palliative care patients, visits to critically ill patients, a designated support person of a maternity patient or designated caregiver.
As well, everyone entering hospitals will be screened for possible SARS contamination including all staff.
