There is plenty of concern in the Canadian forest industry about the American tax on our softwood lumber exports.
An official with Resolute Forest Products says his company is disappointed but not surprised by the roughly 20% tariff.
Roger Barber admits it will definitely hurt their lumber operations in Ignace, Thunder Bay and Atikokan.
Barber says they’re still assessing what the impacts will be.
He says being in northwestern Ontario, the U.S. market is their key market and they rely on them.
Barber notes right now they don’t have any immediate plans to change their business, however he is concerned with the additional costs.
