Federal Conservative leadership hopeful Erin O'Toole says if elected he will pledge to do more to move the Ring of Fire mining development forward.
Speaking to Acadia News, O'Toole says the government should be putting its full attention on major projects that allow employment to be brought forward and royalty revenue that the entire country can benefit from.
He adds the Feds should be earmarking funds for the project, stressing its importance on the northern Ontario economy.
As for his run as party leader, O'Toole says he feels he already has a lot of support in the region, especially from veterans.
O'Toole once served in the military and he was also the Veterans Affairs Minister for the previous Conservative government.
