The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs is warning its members to stay off trails until they are opened and groomed.
And so far, trails are still closed over much of the province.
OFSC Trails Chair Mike Farr says grooming cannot begin until the ground and water are frozen solid and there is enough snow to work with.
Farr says eager snowmachiners often take unnecessary risks at this time of year and pay with their lives when simply waiting another week or two would have made a huge difference in conditions.
A snowmachiner was recently killed on a trail near Kapuskasing.
The trail was closed at the time of the accident.
