The Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association is heartened by word the province wants to hear from area communities on how they can provide more long term care spaces.

President Wendy Landry says they want to see regional solutions submitted to the government.

Landry says a shortage of beds is at the critical stage in our area, due to an aging population.

Landry notes everyone deserves the right to age in their home communities.

The Liberals recently committed to creating 5,000 new long-term care beds by 2022 and over 30,000 new beds over the next decade.
