An enhanced 9-1-1 system has officially arrived in a number of communities where the emergency service was never available before.
The Dryden and Surrounding Area 9-1-1 Committee says the new service was lauched this morning at 9-AM.
The committee was instrumental in assisting Bell Canada with assigning civic addresses, developing road maps and compiling all addressing information.
Sioux Lookout, Ignace, Machin, Eagle Lake First Nation and a number of unorganized townships surrounding Dryden are getting 9-1-1 for the first time.
Although, the City of Dryden already had a basic 9-1-1 service, it is now included in the enhanced system.
The address of the caller will now be visible to the operator and the caller will be asked which emergency service provider is needed.
