Numerous ceremonies across the region marked the 12th anniversary of the Montreal Massacre.
A lone gunman shot and killed 14 young women at a Montreal university in 1989.
A vigil was held at Dryden High School yesterday to remember those killed and other victims of violence against women.
Dryden lawyer Dana-Lynne MacKinnon spoke at the vigil.
She says every day an alarming number of violent acts are carried out against women.
MacKinnon encourages people to report violent acts and attempt to help victims get out of troublesome situations.
