Single, Indigenous mothers are getting more support to find full-time and meaningful employment.
The Dryden Native Friendship Centre has received Federal funding to launch a so-called “Industry Council”.
Executive Director Sally Ledger says they are hoping to work with private industry members to give their organization some advise on the labour market as well as labour trends.
Ledger says the goal is to form a Committee to work with young aboriginal women on skills development and jobs training.
Ledger notes it’s their hope that the industry leaders will take some of the mothers under their wing in a professional or even employment perspective.
She says the initiative is a component of their recently launched “Homeward Bound” program.
