Dryden Mayor Greg Wilson is standing behind a zero percent tax increase ahead of a vote Monday on the 2017 municipal budget.
Wilson says ratepayers are going to be hit in new municipal property assessments.
Wilson says assessment changes will result in an average 1.66% increase this year for homeowners.
He suggests that will be carried over for the next four years, meaning property owners will be noticing they will be paying more.
Wilson notes Municipal Property Assessment Corporation decisions puts Council’s in difficult positions during budget time.
He says a cost of living tax increase, being suggested by some on Council, would be added on to property tax hikes.
