Sioux Lookout Mayor Doug Lawrance says their regional “Working Group” is aggressively pursuing several economic opportunities including the development of an East-West travel corridor.
Lawrance says the network would link Highway’s 594, 516, 72 and the CN Rail mainline as well as a Trans-Load facility on the east side of Sioux Lookout.
He stresses having a sustainable and modern transportation route is imperative for the growth of our region.
Lawrance says the collaboration is also focusing on the Ring of Fire, mining, and an all-weather road network.
He adds investing in infrastructure such as northern all-weather roads, hydro grid extension and an Integrated Transportation System will result in jobs, a broader tax base and sustainable communities.
Lawrance says establishing partnerships is essential when dealing with the government.
The “Working Group” includes Sioux Lookout, Pickle Lake, Lac Seul, Slate Falls, Cat Lake and Big Trout Lake First Nation.
Lawrance says the next step is turning their dream into a reality.
