An insightful way to find out about the region’s past.
An indoor spirit walk is being held at the Dryden Public Library at 6:30pm today where six stories of individuals who impacted Dryden and the surrounding area will be told.
Chair of the Dryden Genealogical Society Will Vermeer says the event will focus on the accomplishments of these people and what hardships they endured to come to Dryden.
Vermeer also says the event is usually well attended and has a bit of a following from a few locals.
The event is free and anyone is welcome to join in.
This year’s stories include:
John Dryden – founder of the city and after whom our city is named
David and Ida Smith – The First Postmasters
John Anderson – forester and prospector
Lily Latimer Skene – one of the first residents of Oxdrift
Edward “Ted” Thompson – station agent at Wabigoon for a number of years
Alfred Pitt – town’s first mayor and owner of one of the first businesses
