The English River Miners are the first recipients of the SIJHL’s Team Community Service Award.
The new award will be presented on a yearly basis to a team in recognition of their involvement in public service, non-profit events and overall involvement in charitable events and functions.
The league says the Miners’ players and staff provided over 1,600 hours volunteering their time in community projects including time spent in schools, libraries, workshops and other events.
English River also raised funds for the local Lions Club and Homeless Shelter and were heavily involved with Lake McDowell First Nation taking part in workshops and creating awareness on bullying, suicide and other social causes.
