KENNETH DAVIDSON MCKAY
March 24, 1931 – February 16, 2017
With his family at his side and cracking jokes to the end, Kenneth Davidson McKay passed away peacefully at the Dryden Regional Health Centre on Thursday, February 16, 2017.
Ken was born in Dryden on March 24, 1931 to Ethel and Doug McKay. His sister Irma completed the family. After high school he started as a surveyor with the Department of Highways. From there he went to work at, and would retire from the Dryden Paper Mill. He met a sweet young girl named Doreen while ordering ice cream one day and in 1952 he married her. They welcomed their son Doug in 1958 with Allan following in 1963. In 1977 Ken and Doreen bought the Evening Star Motel where they met some amazing people and collected some memorable stories. He loved when he could sit on the deck at the family cottage overlooking Thunder Lake or a day fishing out at Raleigh Lake. Everyone who knew Ken would have been treated to his fast wit and incredible sense of humour.
He is survived by his devoted wife Doreen – they would have celebrated their 65th Anniversary this year. He is also survived by his sons Doug (Carol) and Allan; and his adoring grandchildren Scott and Jodi. He was so incredibly proud of his family. Ken was predeceased by his parents, Ethel and Doug, sister Irma, and granddaughter Sara.
A Memorial Funeral Service to celebrate Ken’s life will be held on Monday, February 20th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Moffat Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home with Alice Bloomfield officiating. Interment of ashes will be held at a later date.
