Janette Addie Olivia Johnson
March 13, 1931 – June 14, 2017
It is with sorrow we announce the passing of Janette Addie Olivia Johnson on June 14th, 2017. Janette was born in Stratton ON, March 13, 1931 to Gladys and Harvey Perry. She left home at the young age of 16 to pursue her high school education in Fort Frances while supporting herself. Her journey led her to Wabigoon where she secured a teaching position. This is when she met Herman Johnson with whom she enjoyed a long and loving marriage. She was predeceased by Herman in 2015. Surviving siblings include Gwen (Jim), Frances (Wesley), Ralph (Pearl), Darlene, and Delinda, as well as those who have passed on, Harlan (Clareen), Mary Anne (Ernest), and Joyce. Janette leaves behind three daughters, Brenda, Gloria (Robert) and Iris (Dimitri). Six grandchildren, Heather, Donna, Karlie, Becky, Anton, and Olivia will miss her deeply. Also left behind are four great grandchildren, Micah, Cohen, Evelyn, and Sam, who never had the opportunity to experience how nurturing and loving she was. We would like to make special mention of her friend, Dora Palermo, who visited her regularly and sat with us the last days of her life. She is the embodiment of a true friend.
Janette passed on her desire for higher learning and love of music to her children and their children. She was a talented artist and many members of the family have one of her paintings to remember her by. Our lives were made fuller because of her interests.
We remember this fun-loving mother who found joy in small things … her gardening, flowers in particular, and the birds at their birdfeeder in Wabigoon. She had a beautiful mezzo-soprano voice and we all remember the songs she sang and taught us, notably “You are my sunshine” and “Poor Little Robin”. Home-made bread and cinnamon buns, searching for spring flowers, hand knit sweaters and identical sewn outfits are the things we treasure. We love you and will miss you.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Janette’s life will be held Wednesday June 21st, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Moffat Chapel of Stevens Funeral Homes with Alice Bloomfield officiating. Interment will follow in the Wabigoon Cemetery.
