James Donald Misner – April 4, 1935 – September 29, 2017
In loving memory of James Donald Misner, age 82 years whose death occurred September 29, 2017 at Dryden Regional Health Centre.
James was born in Simcoe, Ontario on April 4, 1935. His parents were Edith Ellen Tutt and Donly A. Misner. Jim grew up with his grandparents, Harry and Ellen Tutt and his cousin Richard Dalby in Tillsonburg. He attended public and secondary school there. Jim was very active in the cadets in high school. He attended the summer camp that was held at Ipperwash each summer and enjoyed the program there. Saturday night was Hockey Night in Canada. The family sat in front of the radio and listened attentively and cheered for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Jim moved to Ottawa with his Aunt Alice Dalby for Grade 13 and a year at University. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in June of 1955 and served until May 1961. He was posted at Centralia where he taught flying to many cadets. Canada had a huge NATO commitment in those days and his students were from many countries besides local Canadian students.
While in Centralia he met one of the teachers on the base. He married Mary Anne Erskine on March 28, 1959. His first son, James Bruce, was born as his term of duty there wound down. Then he began his second career by entering Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto. Now began four years of intensive training in the big city. Again he was a very successful student and passed with flying colours. During this time, his second son, Donald Andrew was born. After graduation, and a good deal of research, the family moved to Dryden where he set up practice. For the next 30 years he served the community in that capacity. His daughter, Elizabeth Anne arrived in 1967 (a Centennial project). In 1980 he moved his practice to part time and joined the Fire Marshall’s Office as a Fire Advisor. He served in this capacity until 1997 when he retired. His grandson, Andrew Jordan was born in 1992 and became the focus of life from then on. Jim was a great reader, loved his cars and was always ready for a game of cards. The Go-Getters filled his need for bridge and cribbage and he spent many a happy hour there.
Jim left us September 29, 2017, leaving to mourn his loss is his loving and cherished wife of 58 years, Mary Anne Misner, his three children Bruce of Thunder Bay ON, Donald (Joanne), Anne and grandson Andrew of Dryden ON, cousin Dr. Richard Dalby (Louise) of Tillsonburg ON and his in-laws the Erskine Family of Goderich ON.
Cremation has taken place and a private family interment service will be conducted by Rev. Erin McIntyre. A memorial lunch for his friends will be held Tuesday October 3rd, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the Dryden Go-Getters Centre.
