What a way to start the season!
The Dryden Ice Dogs kicked off the SIJHL season with an entertaining and hard fought 3-2 win over the defending champion Fort William North Stars Friday night.
The Stars opened the scoring 9 seconds into the game, however Dryden took control after that with second period goals by Brendan MacDonald and Red Lake’s Cody Jeffries.
Jeff Hanke added one more late in the third.
Ryan Baird notched his second of the game with 2 minutes left in the game to cut the lead to 1, however Shaun Szachury and the Dryden defense withstood a late attack to preserve the 3-2 win.
Szachury made 42 saves for the win.
The same two teams go at it again Saturday night at 7:30 at the Dog Pound.
