Gloria Marie Mainville
(August 5, 1945 – July 1, 2017)
Gloria Mainville of Dryden passed away peacefully at the Dryden Regional Health Centre surrounded by adopted family and friends on July 1st, 2017…a day she chose so that all her survivors would easily remember the date of her passing. Gloria was born on August 5th, 1945 in Eastern Ontario and moved to Dryden when she was a young adult.
Gloria progressed through life surprisingly well given the many challenges she struggled with. Her life journey showed her the joys of travel, fishing, outdoors, the changing seasons and special occasions. Her greatest joys were listening to country and western music, going for car rides, and days off. When people saw her vast collection of records, tapes, and cd’s they were amazed. During trips and listening to music Gloria would always correctly identify the artist and sing along with great joy. She was a very social outgoing individual.
Without knowing it herself, Gloria was a very strong advocate for individuals faced with challenges. She was a very strong individual, spoke her mind, and certainly let you know what in her mind was right and wrong. Through her behavior and words she helped society change their views about the real potential of individuals with challenges.
Gloria is survived by Liz and Ken Schmidt and Gus Kropf, friends she adopted as her family, her Community Living family, and a host of friends throughout the community of Dryden.
A Memorial Funeral Service will be held Wednesday July 5th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Moffat Chapel of Stevens Funeral Homes with Mrs. Sharon Hyatt officiating. Interment will follow at a later date.
