One of the interesting workshops taking place Sunday, during the 2009 Sioux Mountain Music Festival was traditional birch bark basket making. A group of people made their own baskets by hand, using simple hand tools. It just wouldn't be the Blueberry Festival without ol' Bert! Blueberry Bert joins the festivities Sunday afternoon at Town Beach for the 2009 Sioux Mountain Music Festival. A great crowd gathered throughout the afternoon Thursday, to browse farm-fresh meats and locally grown produce at a special Cloverbelt Farmer's Market at the Dryden Memorial Arena parking lot. Normally you'll find the market from 9am - noon every Saturday, next to the Oxdrift Hall, on highway 17. The best 'original recipe' cookie in the Cookie Monster's Delight contest went to Gloria Smith. Her 'Citrus Sunrise' won over the judges with a great texture and bright citrus punch. The cookie features lemon, lime, orange, and grapefruit zest, along with coconut and a few other secrets. Marlee (5) and Taylor (10) Judson entered their cookies in the best chocolate chip category - and won! Their cookies featured chocolate M&Ms and were soft, chewy, and moist ... with just the right sweetness to win Thursday afternoon at the Cloverbelt Farmer's Market. Abby (4) and Emma (6) Bell won the prize for baking the BIGGEST cookie in the Cookie Monster's Delight contest at the Cloverbelt Farmer's Market, Thursday afternoon at the Dryden Arena. This banner was made by the peer leaders of the Youth Action Alliance using 1,800 paper cups on a chain link fence in Sioux Lookout. The move was made to draw attention to the flavourgone campaign to eliminate flavours from tobacco products.
