L-R are Larry Hope, Director of Education Keewatin-Patricia District School Board, Red Lake District High School Principal Aileen Yakiwchuk, CKDR's Katelyn Carr and Clinton Bruetsch from QEDHS in Sioux Lookout. Each school received a check for $1,280.00 toward their music programs. (Earlier this year, CKDR donated funds to music programs at Pinewood School, St. Joseph's School and Dryden High School.) A bunch of the 2009-2010 Dryden Ice Dogs players dropped in On Katelyn at our CKDR studio Thursday afternoon to say Happy Birthday to one of their own Spencer Gyori and Ice Dogs "Mom" Anita Hackman. The Ice Dogs open the season on the road Tuesday Sept 22nd (CKDR will have the call) and will host the Fort William North Stars October 2nd to open the home season. Red Lake's annual "Terry Fox Run" raised $13,505. The top three fund raisers L-R were: Nettie Moskwa, Ian Chuhai, and Sherry McCoy (G. Brooks photo) Liberal MP and Hockey Legend Ken Dryden addresses party faithful at a fundraising dinner in Kenora. (Sept.4th; M.Ebbeling) The 2009 Red Lake Fall Classic champions - Pat Wagner and Terry Feriancek - accept their prize for two days of hard work, reeling in over 30 pounds of walleye. They also picked up a prize for having the biggest basket of fish on day two of the tournament - 16.08lbs. Congratulations guys - for your THIRD Red Lake Fall Classic championship! (They really are a force on that lake!) There's a reason they call Gary Roach "Mr. Walleye" - because he knows how to catch 'em! Mr. Walleye and his partner Duane Hell landed 27.90lbs during the 17th annual Red Lake Fall Classic to end up in 2nd place. J.P. Kennedy and David Koss accept their prize for finishing the 17th annual Red Lake Fall Classic in 3rd place with 27.64lbs caught over the two day tournament. Ray Wilkins and Andrew Johnston didn't just pull in the big fish of day 2 (5.88lbs), but they finished the 17th annual Red Lake Fall Classic in 4th place! Harry Spence and Kevan Bassingthwaite had the biggest cheering section of any boat during the day two weigh-ins at the Red Lake Fall Classic. The sign says it all. (The team ended up finishing 10th overall - looks like the cheering worked!) Robbie Green is this year's Red Lake Fall Classic Junior Champion, with a 2.96 pound walleye - one of 13 walleye weighed in by the kids on the dock this year. Congratulations Robbie!! More 'experienced' anglers lend the kids a hand while they dream of hooking a big fish. This year's big one was a 2.96lb walleye - nice indeed! The kids head down the dock, looking for a good place to fish in the Red Lake Fall Classic Junior Championship Saturday afternoon.
