The team went through the tournament undefeated capping it off with a 5-1 win over the previously undefeated Duluth Northern Wings in the championship final. Local players Geoff Kitt, Josh Oberg, Trevor Kavanaugh and Brendan Bartlett are all members of the team and all played vital roles. This is their second title as the Selects also won the Minnesota Meltdown AAA Open tournament two weeks prior. The boys will now take some well deserved time away from hockey as their next AAA action is back in Duluth at the end of August. On Saturday May 3rd, a Canadian Forces CT-142 Dash-8 aircraft came to Dryden from 17 Wing in Winnipeg, known also as CFANS (Canadian Forces Air Navigation School). The aircraft is nicknamed "gonzo" because of the large nose it has to house its expensive radar unit. This aircraft is equipped with state-of-the-art navigation tools used to train Air Force navigators. Many air navigators come from all over the world including NATO countries to train on Canada's CT-142's. This aircraft came to the Dryden Regional airport to give some lucky army and air cadets from the local 2072 Dryden Army Cadet Corps and the Machin 906 Squadron in Vermilion Bay. Lucky cadets were strapped in to the trainer and briefly instructed on how air navigators would use the sophisticated radar. Cadets were taken in groups and flown around the Dryden area. Approximately 40 cadets and army officers were given a chance to experience a flight on this state of the art aircraft. This was a combined effort with local cadet groups and Canadian Forces personnel in Winnipeg to give young cadets a more in depth learning experience about the Canadian Forces.
