The Dryden Skating Club is partnering with local organizations and the provincial government to develop skills at the grassroots level.
CanSkate Coordinator Janice Radburn says they received funding to launch a new program for local youth.
Radburn says they had skaters who were new to the ice enrolled in a ten week program, where they learned not only how to skate, but to play the game of hockey.
She notes they are now offering a basic skating program for Junior and Senior Kindergarten kids.
Radburn says they want to teach the fundamental skills needed before kids move on to pick a sport.
And a reminder that the Sunset Regional Figure Skating three day competition starts Friday at the Dryden Memorial Arena.
The event is open to the public.
