Donald ‘Don’ Doudiet
In loving memory of Donald ‘Don’ Doudiet, age 80, who passed away peacefully at the Dryden Regional Health Centre on Thursday August 16, 2018 with his family by his side.
Dad was born in Dyment Ontario on July 19, 1938 to Harold and Ellen Doudiet. On October 23, 1959 Dad married Gladys Potter. Together they raised two children in Wabigoon. They eventually made the moved to Dryden.
Dad began his long career in July 1961 starting with the Dryden Paper Company where he stayed until his health wouldn’t allow him to continue. During his time working in the bush the company changed names many times.
Dad loved going camping with family, hunting and fishing. He enjoyed tending to his garden and attending a dance or two at the Wabigoon Hall. In his early years he played men’s slow pitch but after his heart surgery in 1991 he became an avid curler at the Wabigoon Curling Rink. Curling in many bonspiels.
Dad was a gentle, soft spoken man. He loved his family very much and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He loved his companions Dasha and Dudley and rarely went anywhere without them.
Dad was pre-deceased by his infant son Gregory, his parents Harold and Ellen Doudiet his father and mother-in-law James and Margaret Potter, brothers Wayne, Alfred, Ernie, Freddie and David, sisters Lillian, Helen and Shirley brothers-in-laws Leonard, Lawrence, Dale, Walter, Dwayne and Brian sister-in-law Loretta.
Dad will be greatly missed by his wife Gladys, son Randy of Dryden, daughter Shelley (Jerry Plitnikas) of Winnipeg, 2 grandchildren Terra (Logan Field), Gregory and 4 great grandchildren Colton, Charlotte, Hannah and Rylynn.
Dad is survived by his sisters Bertha and Barbara, brothers-in-law Tim, Wilf, Allen, Eddie, Frankie, Ronnie, Daryl, Bob, Bobby, sisters-in-law Paddie, Anne, Sharleen, Verna, Linda, Susie, Mary Jane, Betty and Donna as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
We would like to thank Dr. Jollymore, the doctors and nurses at the Dryden Regional Health Center for taking such good care of Dad over the years. A big thank you to Auntie Susie and Terra for being with Dad and supporting us during his last days.
A Memorial Funeral Service to celebrate Dads life will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Moffatt Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home with Alice Bloomfield officiating. A luncheon will be held at the Wabigoon Memorial Hall following the service. Interment of ashes will be held at a later date.
