It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Carol Fraser, who passed away peacefully on Sunday December 25, 2016, at the Dryden Regional Health Centre with her beloved husband at her side.
Born Carolynne Frances Roblin to Ada and James Roblin in Kenora, Ontario, Carol met and married her sweetheart, Larry, in 1966, at the tender age of 16, turning 17 two days later. Carol moved to Ignace with her husband and two small children in 1972. She enjoyed playing shortstop for the Ignace Ladies Lioness baseball team for many years, became known as “Fred” from her truck driving years and was still called by that nickname by quite a few people. She went to Hawaii with her husband and good friends, Jean and Claude Desaulniers, in 1979 and loved it so much she always talked about going back. Carol had a great love of family and friends and was always known to be cooking up something for someone. Many people, both family and friend alike, spent time eating some of her home cooking whether it be in her home or at one of the many events she cooked for. She was a second “mom” to many of her children’s friends and was always in her glory when she had a full house to cook and care for. She later taught her grandchildren to cook and care for each other too. Carol spent a lot of time with her grandchildren, taking them to places like the beach, out on a quad ride, down to the school to play on the equipment or just attending one of the kid’s events like hockey tournaments. She was very lucky at draws and often “cleaned” up the tables winning the big prizes which she always gave to her grandchildren. Carol was also a pinball wizard in her day and had all the kids in the arcade in awe of her gaming skills. In her later years, her gaming on the computer and ipad made supper late more than a few times.
Carol was a tireless volunteer donating most of her time to the Lioness and Ladies of the Moose, and, most recently, the Silver Tops. She was most known for her many years of waitressing at the Tempo (Tower Hill Truck Stop) making many friends from far and wide, who soon became “her” regulars and often brought her gifts from all over the world on each of their stops through. Carol was always known to be sporting a pair of dangly earrings, a smile on her face, an optimistic outlook and always had some quick witted comebacks ready.
She was predeceased by her mother and father, Ada and James Roblin, siblings Shirley (Charles) Boucha, Gerry Boucha, Mary Ellen Oldford, Dan Roblin, George Roblin, and Florence Adams.
She is survivied by her beloved husband of 50 years, Lawrence Fraser, her two children Sean (Brandy) Fraser, Kim Gouliquer, grandchildren Brad, Shailee, Wyatt and Rory, sisters Joyce (Otto) Williams, Gail Beaucage, Gwen Andrews, Susan (Nick) Shiska, brother Ed Titley, brother-in-law Lloyd Adams, very close nieces Rhonda (Dean) McLellan and Sandy (Kevin) Cloutier, many more nieces and nephews and other family, and her life-long best friend, Jean Shamlock.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Carol’s life will take place at a later date. If friends desire donations may be made to Tamarack House online or through Stevens Funeral Home, P.O. Box 412, Dryden, Ontario P8N 2Z1. Condolences may be posted at www.stevensfuneralhomes.ca.
