Forced to watch the Fort Frances Lakers hoist the SIJHL championship in front of the fans in Dryden for the past two years, Ice Dogs captain Derek McPhail finally got redemption.
McPhail scored the biggest goal of his junior career, finding the open net with 41-seconds left in the first overtime as the Ice Dogs outlasted the Lakers 2-1 Tuesday night and earn a four game Semi-Final sweep.
Nic Noseworthy opened the scoring in the second, before Dylan Kooner tied the game in the third.
Dryden GM peppered the Fort Frances net with 21-shots in extra time and finished with 51 in total.
The Lakers replied with 39 shots on Patrick Zubick.
The win ends the three year championship reign of Fort Frances.
Dryden GM now advances to the Bill Salonen Cup for the third straight year.
They will play the winner of Thunder Bay and English River.
